JSTOR problems with IE

If someone has trouble opening a document in JSTOR while using Internet Explorer, you can try another browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) or use Keith's resolution below:

Problem can be resolved by opening the Internet options (under cogwheel in upper left of browser), click on Advanced tab, click on Restore advanced setting, then click on Reset button.  Note: all other applications and windows need to be closed when doing this.  After the reset, close the browser, then re-open and it works.  There is a setting or combination of settings in the Internet options that may be causing the problem—it would require several hours of comparing and testing the various combination of settings to determine the actual root of the problem.

Microfiche Books (mLAC call number)

Greetings,

There is a history class using primary sources one of which may be a book with the call number mLAC XXXXXX (numbers).  These books are part of the Library of American Civilization series.

These books are on micrform and located in the card catalog against the wall in the microfilm area. The envelope will have more then one book listed and is smaller than microfiche.  They may be read by using the microfilm/fiche readers in the basement, however since its smaller then usual the reader will need zoom in quite a bit.

Interlibrary Loans and StarID

Might be a little confusing for students and faculty, but... When requesting an ILL the page prompts you for your library card number and last name, however it will also work if you use your Star ID/Password.

Printing and the new Marco contract

From Sheila...

As you may know, the campus Marco managed print agreement began on July 1st.  All campus printers and NEW copiers are part of this agreement.  (Please note that our current employee copiers are not currently on the managed print plan, but would be moved to it when their current contracts expire later this summer.)

This is a pay per print agreement that covers maintenance and toner replacement.  Black and white prints are $0.01 per image.  Color images are $0.075 per image. The paper cost are extra at our expense.

To request service or order supplies for printers, please contact Marco at:
Call 800-888-2081

We wanted to make you aware of the cost per page fee structure in hopes of increasing employee awareness about unnecessary printing or inadvertent printing of “orphan” pages that sometimes only have line or two of text are charged the same rate as full page prints.

Also, if your printer has the capability, we would encourage you to consider duplex printing.  This is how I set my duplex printing:
Go to Windows Explorer orbit (bottom left)
Devices and Printers
Chose the printer that you use and right click
Go to Printing preferences
In the Finishing tab check print on both sides
OK

Information on makerspaces

As I was looking through email this morning, I came upon this article on makerspaces. Since it seems likely we will be implementing one in our library, I thought I'd share this information.

New LibSmart Instruction Services page

We just published the new LibSmart Instruction Services page. This page has the library instruction form embedded in it and describes the kind of instruction that we provide. Instructors are able to pick and choose different components to request for their classes. We already had our first request and the form works well. Good job, Cindy!

New Ask a Librarian 24/7 page

We have updated our Ask a Librarian 24/7 page. It now includes the research consultation form that patrons can use to schedule an appointment with us. The form feeds into a Google spreadsheet and an email is sent to the askref account. If you are on the desk when a request arrives, please forward it to the requested librarian or respond to it yourself. Let Melissa or Cindy know if you have any suggestions.

We also embedded the AskMN chat widget here!
